(November 22, 2016, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, the newly-appointed Colonel Commandant of the Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) assumed duties during a simple ceremony at MIC Regimental Centre, Karandeniya on Wednesday (16).
On arrival at the Regimental premises, the newly-appointed Colonel Commandant was welcomed by the Centre Commandant before a Guard Turnout presented by MIC troops greeted him in accordance with military traditions.
Soon after, Major General Ranasinghe laid floral wreaths at the war monument for the fallen War Heroes.
After that Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe formally placed his signature for an official document and signified the acceptance of the new office.
The newly-appointed Colonel Commandant addressed all officers before he addressed other ranks.
Finally, he called at the head office complex of the Regimental Headquarters.
Senior officers, officers, other ranks attended the occasion.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) on Monday (21) bade farewell to Major General Aruna Perera, former Director General General Staff (DGGS) of the Army who had rendered an exemplary service to both the organization and the regiment during a formal military ceremony at his Regimental Headquarters, Rock House, Colombo on the eve of his retirement from the Army, the press statement issued by the Army headquarter noted.
The day’s programme kicked off after Major General B.A Perera on arrival received a Guard Turnout and was welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel, R. R. M. P. N. B. Bambaradeniya, Commanding Officer, 1 SLAC.
A Guard of Honour, presented by SLAC troops afterwards saluted Major General B.A Perera at the parade grounds after he was welcomed by Brigadier D.T Gamage, Center Commandant, SLAC and Brigadier A.L.P.S Thilakarathna, Commander, Armoured Brigade, SLAC.
The charming but the dignified military parade was reviewed by the retiring Major General B.A Perera accompanied by the Parade Commander together with Brigadier D.T Gamage and Brigadier A.L.P.S Thilakarathna, in accordance with military traditions.
An all rank tea party at the Corporals’ Club culminated the day’s proceedings.
At the end of the events, the retiring Major General B.A Perera was awarded a street lining farewell bids ‘Jaya Sri’ by officers and other ranks of the SLAC.
Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Military Liason Officer at MoD together with several senior officers, officers and other ranks participated in the day’s events.
