Sri Lanka: President Sirisena Lamented and Reveals Why he is Failing!

‘I’m forced to cohabit with a gang of thieves’

( January 25, 2017, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) President Maithripala Sirisena is very much worried that he is forced to cohabit with a gang of thieves, after previously having abandoned a government run by a royal family of thieves, local media resported by quoting the attorney general’s department sources say.

“He made his worries known at a meeting with top officials of the department yesterday (24), which came after the AG was threatened by a top minister,”  the Sri Lanka Mirror a daily web-based news portal reported.

The president told the department officials not to give into any pressure, act impartially for the public’s sake and not to allow any political power to cover up fraud and corruption.

Report was into 2,300 bond issues

According to report, the minister in question has ordered the AG to immediately furnish him with a report into Central Bank bond issues between 2007 and 2016.

The AG has informed the minister that it would take considerable time to do the report as more than 2,300 bond issues had taken place during that period.

However, the minister has persisted with his demand, and a group of department officials worked day and night for several weeks and prepared a report containing eight volumes.

The report was handed over to the minister’s secretary, as the minister was on a foreign tour with the prime minister.

Later, the minister had threatened the AG for having sent a copy of the report to the speaker.

And, the AG has informed a top official of the President’s Office about the threat.

Department sources say it is the tradition to give copies of all its report with regard to government audits to the speaker for perusal by people’s representatives.

Meanwhile, participating in yesterday’s (24) parliamentary debate into the CB bond issue, chief opposition whip Anura Kumara Dissanayake urged the speaker to take over the  investigation into the matter.
